A London-Weekend

English:

Hey guys,
And just like that, my first week-end in London is over as well! It were busy two days but I had so much fun! On Saturday I met up with an Austrian AuPair who lives about 15 minutes away from me. We took the bus into Central Kingston and explored our borough a bit. Kingston is quite big and there’s loads to do. We first went around the shopping area and I bought a new sweater. I did not pack as many warm clothes because they are heavy and it’s supposed to be summer in Europe as well. But here in England it is quite cold already. It can be warm and sunny one minute and five minutes later you’re sat freezing. English weather changes really quickly and you have to be prepared.
Later we went along the Thames. There are a lot of pubs, restaurants and cafes along the river. And also, the rich people live close to the river, so we got to see some pretty stunning houses as well.
The only thing that struck us as a bit weird was, that all – yes, seriously ALL! – shops closed at 6PM. Doesn’t matter whether it’s just a small boutique or a giant H&M. If you’re still in the shop by 6PM you’ll get kicked out. The only thing that’s still open by then are the pubs and restaurants but they close at 11PM as well.
Sunday I spent with another AuPair from Germany. She lives closer towards the center of London, so me met up there. It took me about an hour by bus and train to get to Waterloo Station, which is close to Westminster Abby, Big Ben and the London Eye.
We first went to Nottinghill Carnival. There’s big crowds of young adults getting randomly drunk while there’s a parade with trucks going through the streets with loud music. It was worth a watch but it didn’t really seem like a lot fun to me to actually join the crowd as the people weren’t even dancing or celebrating but just getting drunk. So after an hour of walking around Nottinghill, which by the way has gorgeous houses – I have to go there again one day and take pictures-, we went back to Westminster Abby and took a couple touristy pictures. We also talked about our host families quite a bit and especially about our AuPair children.

Love y'all,

Hallo meine Lieben,

Svenja
