A week with my brother

As I already told you guys in my last post, I had my brother over for a week. It was his first trip to London, so we left the house early and came back really late everyday. We went out exploring the city and had loads of fun, which is why I didn't post any thing during the past few days.

Since I had to send my brother back to Germany on Tuesday I have now time to give y'all a quick summary of everything we visited. 

Wie ich euch schon in meinem letzten Post erzählt habe, hatte ich die letzte Woche Besuch von meinem Bruder. Da es sein erster Besuch in London war, haben wir sehr viel unternommen. Wir sind früh aus dem Haus gegangen, erst spät Abend wieder gekommen und haben zwischen durch London unsicher gemacht. Deswegen hatte ich nicht wirklich Zeit hier etwas zu posten. Da mein Bruder am Dienstag Abend aber wieder nach Deutschland zurück musste, bekommt ihr jetzt eine Zusammenfassung von allem, was er zu sehen bekommen hat. 

Kingston: 

Since my host-parents invited Lars to stay with me, he definitely had to see Kingston as well. It's not really big, so it only took us about an hour for him to see the most important parts but he liked it. 

Meine Gastfamilie hatte Lars netter weise angeboten, bei uns zu wohnen. Also musste er natürlich erst einmal Kingston kennen lernen. Da es nicht besonders groß ist, haben wir nur gut eine Stunde gebraucht, um alles zu sehen, aber er hat es genossen. 

King's Cross Station

One thing he really wanted to see was King's Cross and Platform 9 3/4 and the Harry Potter store. We went there and explored a bit. He didn't take a picture with the cart going through the wall because we would have had to wait for more than 30 minuets. 

From there on, we walked to Camden and visited the market. 

Einer der Orte, den Lars wirklich sehen wollte, war King's Cross und Platform 9 3/4. Außer dem Harry Potter Shop, der leider relativ klein und somit immer sehr voll ist, gibt es dort auch eine Station, an welcher man ein Foto machen kann, wie man mit einem Kofferwagen durch die Wand läuft. Allerdings hat Lars das nicht gemacht, da er gut 30 Minuten hätte anstehen müssen. An dem Tag sind wir dann von dort aus noch nach Camden gelaufen und haben den Markt ein wenig durchstöbert. 

Covent Garden

While visiting Covent Garden, we once again followed one of the Big Bus Tour. We didn't really stick to the route for too long but we found some nice ones. 

Bei unserem Trip zum Covent Garden sind wir wieder den bunten Bussen gefolgt. Wir sind war nicht sehr lange der gedachten Route gefolgt, aber es gab trotzdem einige Kreative zu sehen. 

Buckingham Palace

The day we visited Covent Garden was really busy. We first walked to Leicester Square afterwards - I didn't take any pictures there that day - and then went on to Buckingham Palace. In a little park, on the left hand side of Buckingham Palace, is where we had lunch that day: a 3 Pound Meal Deal.

Von Covent Garden aus ging es für uns dann erst einmal über den Leicester Square und dann Richtung Buckingham Palace. In einem kleinen Park links neben dem Palace haben wir dann auch zu Mittag gegessen: das übliche 3 Pfund Meal Deal. 

Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament

When walking through the park one automatically comes to the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street, where the Prime Minister lives. it is highly secured by police officers, so one can only see into the street through the gate and only residents or staff are aloud through the gate.

Als wir dann noch durch den Park gelaufen sind, kamen wir direkt zu den Houses of Parliament und zur Downing Street. Dort wohnt der Premier Minister des United Kingdoms. Die Straße ist komplett durch ein hohes Tor und ständige Polizei Sicherung abgesperrt. Nur Angestellte oder Anwohner dürfen durch das Tor durch.

South Banks

When the weather is nice, there's nothing better to do than walking along the Thames. We came across a skate park and also this really cute bus which was turned into a Frozen Yogurt shop. 

Ein weiterer wundervoller Ort in London sind die Wege am Ufer der Themse entlang. Dabei sind wir an einem Skate Park vorbei gekommen und an einem alten Bus, der jetzt als Frozen Yogurt Laden dient. 

Big Ben & Westminster Abby

An obvious must-see in London is Big Ben and Westminster Abby. We also went there during the evening, so he got to see the London Eye and Big Ben lit up.  

Da man nicht nach London kommen kann, ohne Big Ben oder Westminster Abby zu sehen, waren wir da natürlich auch. Allerdings nicht nur bei Tag, sonder auch bei Nacht, da die Lichter am Big Ben und am London Eye dann wirklich wunderschön aussehen. 

Primrose Hill

One of my favorite parts of London in Primrose Hill, which meant that I had to bring Lars here no matter what. We actually were really lucky and on the day we went it was sunny, so it was absolutely beautiful and the view was perfect. 

Einer meiner Lieblingsteile Londons ist Primrose Hill. Natürlich musste ich Lars auch dahin bringen. Wir hatten super viel Glück und das Wetter war sonnig und relativ warm, sodass die Aussicht perfekt war. 

The Tower Bridge & The Tower of London

Rugby and Football

On Sunday, Megan invited us to a Rugby match. Neither her nor any of us had ever been and we didn't really know what to expect. It was loads of fun and in some ways similar to American Football but the rules are a lot different and I haven't even started to understand half of them. 

Am Sonntag haben wir Megan besucht und sind mit ihr und noch drei weiteren AUPairs auf ein Rugby Spiel gefahren. Keiner von uns hatten jemals eins gesehene und wir wussten alle nicht so genau, was wir zu erwarten hatten. Es erinnert einen an ein American Football Spiel, doch sind die Regeln und Spielzüge komplett anders. Es hat super viel Spaß gemacht, zu zu schauen und einen Teil der Regeln haben wir auch schon verstanden. 

On our last day, Lars wanted to visit one of London's many soccer stadiums. We decided to go to Arsenal because it was the closest. It wasn't possible for us to go on the pitch but we walked around the stadium and payed a quick visit to the fan shop. 

An unserem letzten Tag in London wollte Lars noch ein Fußball Stadion besuchen. Da Arsenal am nächsten war, haben wir dieses gewählt. Wir haben es zwar nicht in das Stadion rein geschafft, aber sind einmal außen rum gelaufen und haben einmal kurz in den Fan Shop rein geschaut. 

We had a lovely time together and I can't wait to see my family again at Christmas. And even though he enjoyed being here, he was just as happy to go back to Germany as he doesn't really enjoy living in a big city. 

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit zusammen und ich freue mich schon sehr auf Weihnachten, wenn ich meine Familie wieder sehe. Und obwohl mein Bruder viel Spaß hier hatte, hat er sich genauso gefreut, wieder nach Hause zu kommen, da er nicht so ein Stadtmensch ist.
